THE BIG DRAW

THE BIG DRAW was an initial, practical activity set out to generate ideas using collaging techniques of architectural precedents. The task was based on the actuality that architects will 'steal' from each other to manipulate new and exciting designs.

I gathered a range of built and landscape precedents linked to my narrative of an arts and crafts centre for the young and old and explored program ideas by cutting and sticking their plans, elevations and sections in different configurations. In doing this, I was able to identify how my site could be manipulated and began to think spatially about how much I wanted to use and where it would be. The task generated lots of ideas which were then analysed using the SWOT technique (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats).

4 iterations were created and analysed. These were then further developed to form a site strategy.
